About the Instrument

Crafted in Florence in the mid eighteenth century, this master cello reflects the refined craftsmanship of the Carcassi family of instrument makers.

Carcassi instruments are known for their elegant construction and rich tonal depth, qualities that have made them highly respected within the Italian violin-making tradition.

For more than four decades this instrument accompanied Australian cellist Nathan Waks throughout an international performing career.

Through the OCTARR Cello Project, the instrument will continue its life as a performing voice while being shared among its patrons.
