Barcelona-based artist working with human-machine dialogue since 1999. His post-digital drawings combine code, machine logic and centuries-old hand techniques.
Miguel Ripoll began working with human-machine dialogue in 1999, when his early algorithmic pieces were exhibited at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and the Instituto Cervantes, and entered the permanent collections of the Design Museum in Barcelona, the DDi and the MuVAp.
After a long research-driven period coding information architectures for leading institutions including the FT, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, UC Berkeley, Lund University and the Qatar Foundation, and building digital tools now used by millions worldwide, his return to art in 2023 marked the culmination of decades of experimentation. It came together in a new visual language that re-frames traditional artistic concerns, techniques and materials within contemporary digital tensions.
Selected for the European Union's Creative Europe NAT PMP program, his “Grand Tour” series of post-digital drawings is currently on an institutional solo tour across Morocco (2025-27), produced with the National Foundation of Museums of Morocco, the Spanish Embassy and the Islamic Culture Foundation.
He has exhibited at CVPR, the world's leading computer vision conference, in Seattle (2024) and Nashville (2025), both curated by Luba Elliott, at Kunstraum Kreuzberg in Berlin, at the RAK Biennial in the UAE, and in group exhibitions in Hamburg, Palermo, London, Belo Horizonte, São Paulo and Miami, plus museum shows in Italy and South Korea. He was a finalist for the 2025 KANE International Contemporary Art Prize in London and for the 2026 Digital Art Awards at Phillips in Hong Kong, curated by HOFA Gallery.
Institutional shows continue in the coming months in Ireland and the UAE, alongside presentations throughout Europe and the Americas, including Brussels (ArtOnPaper), London, Malmö (ECCV, curated by Luba Elliott) and Barcelona, where he lives and works.
