Understanding OCTARR
OCTARR is a creative studio which brings together art, heritage, and blockchain technology. We research exceptional collectables and then collaborate with select artists and artisans to create new works inspired by them. Through OCTARR, people can collect and support these works, and follow their stories as they continue.
We started OCTARR to help emerging artists and artisans, and to bring exceptional objects and their stories to a wider audience. The worlds of writing and music have long had simple royalty systems; visual artists have far less. Supporting artists fairly remains one of our aims. A DARA Token doesn't include any resale or royalty arrangement.
No. We don't offer securities, shares in a company, or financial returns of any kind. What each project offers is described on its page and in its terms; a DARA Token, for example, is a numbered digital collectible, not a share in the tree or its works. OCTARR is fundamentally about creative projects and heritage preservation.
We take an exclusive, curated approach. We conduct deep research into rare, often unique collectables with great stories. We then collaborate with carefully selected artists and artisans whose work resonates with the collectable's story. Every project is designed to honour heritage while creating something new and meaningful.
OCTARR is for collectors, art enthusiasts, institutions, and individuals who appreciate exceptional art and artisanal creations. We want to attract those interested in the intersection of traditional collecting and modern technology, people who appreciate both the story behind an object and innovative ways to engage with it, and ensure its successful future.

Your DARA Token connects you with the community around the project. As DARA develops, there will be opportunities to preview upcoming artworks and objects and explore bespoke commissions made from DARA’s wood. Commissions are priced separately.
Each DARArtNouveau artwork comes with an OCTARR Passport, a digital certificate documenting its authenticity and provenance, supported by blockchain technology. One DARA Token is also included, connecting you to the wider DARA project and its community.
Art World & Collecting Terminology
Provenance is the documented history of a collectable's ownership and journey through time. In traditional collecting, provenance aids in establishing authenticity and can reveal the significance of a piece - who owned it, where it's been exhibited, how it's been cared for. It's the story behind the object that often makes it extraordinary. While blockchain creates transparent ownership records going forward, provenance encompasses decades or centuries of history and cultural context, that give a collectable its depth and meaning.
Often confused with provenance, the two go hand in hand. Provenance research establishes the chain of ownership, the blockchain ensures immutable and transparent future provenance, whilst authentication determines whether a collectable is original, a copy or indeed a forgery. OCTARR works with world leading experts and openly shares any questions about a given collectable’s authenticity. We will never work with forgeries.
Curation is the thoughtful process of selecting and presenting collectables based on quality, rarity, significance, and narrative. A good curator researches deeply and makes informed choices to create meaning through careful selection. At OCTARR, we take a curatorial approach - we don't tokenise everything we encounter. Instead, we choose exceptional pieces with compelling stories and bring together artists and artisans whose work genuinely resonates with those narratives. Think of it as quality over quantity, story over scale.
Conservation is the specialised practice of preserving artworks and collectables for future generations. It requires expertise in materials, history, and proper care techniques. At OCTARR, we work with conservation experts so that the objects in our projects are professionally maintained, exhibited responsibly, and preserved in excellent condition.
Being a collector can simply be the practice of owning and keeping something with perceived value. For us, it also means directly supporting living artists and artisans, through the commissioning of new work, thus helping ensure they can continue creating. When you collect with OCTARR, you're supporting artists and artisans, and taking part in projects which honour heritage and craftsmanship.
A digital record is useful, but there's something irreplaceable about encountering the physical object in its full dimension. With the cello, it's not just about seeing the grain of centuries-old wood or understanding the maker's craftsmanship - it's about hearing it come alive in the hands of talented musicians. This instrument isn't locked in a vault; it's played in concerts, experienced as it was meant to be. OCTARR actively partners with institutions, galleries, and performance venues to ensure our collectables are seen, heard, and experienced.
We research each work before it is offered: its maker, its materials and its history. What we establish is documented in the work’s OCTARR Passport, which records its identity, authenticity and provenance. Blockchain supports the integrity and traceability of that digital record; it doesn’t prove physical authenticity on its own.
Traditional collecting is rooted in a passion for the objects themselves: their craftsmanship, their history and the people who made them. OCTARR builds on that. Each work comes with an OCTARR Passport documenting its provenance, we share the stories behind our works and projects, and we connect collectors with the artists and craftspeople behind them. Whether you’re new to collecting or experienced, you’re welcome.
Blockchain Technology Explained
Provenance can be disputed or lost, and authenticity often depends on trusted intermediaries. A blockchain can keep a permanent, tamper-proof public record that anyone can check. We use it for exactly that: a lasting record of what we make and its story.
A blockchain is a shared digital ledger. OCTARR uses Base to record tokens and their on-chain transaction history, supporting the information presented through the OCTARR Passport.
Cryptocurrency is one use of blockchain. OCTARR uses it to support digital records and tokens connected to its projects.
Web3 Terminology Decoded
A digital wallet is software that allows you to store, send, and receive blockchain-based tokens. Think of it as a secure digital safe that only you can access with your private key (a secret password). Your wallet doesn't hold the collectable itself - it holds your tokens, which are records of what you collect. You don't need a wallet to collect with OCTARR.
A smart contract is a self-executing program stored on the blockchain that automatically enforces the terms of an agreement.
Tokenisation is the process of recording something as a digital token on a blockchain: a digital record that is secure and verifiable. What a token stands for is set out in each project's terms. For DARA, it is the Digital Record of your DARA Token; it gives no ownership of the tree or its works.
'On-chain' refers to data or transactions recorded on a blockchain itself, as part of its public record. For DARA, each DARA Token is recorded on Base.
The OCTARR Model
Each project begins with our team identifying a historically significant collectable. We conduct thorough research into its provenance and cultural context. We then publish our research, and commission artists and/or artisans to create new work inspired by this piece, resulting in a collection that honours the original while offering something fresh. What each project offers to collectors is set out on its own page and in its terms.
Artists and artisans receive direct compensation for their commissioned work. Our projects also connect them with collectors who appreciate the cultural and historical context of their work, fostering meaningful relationships beyond a single sale.
That depends on the project, and each project’s page and terms describe it. For DARA, a DARA Token gives no ownership of the tree, its materials or any physical artwork. Physical artworks and objects are separate purchases.
Ownership and Rights
Up to 100 of each DARA option per person. Other projects set their own limits.
If you'd like to, you can sign up for updates: exhibitions, conservation, new research, artist collaborations and events, and how each project is evolving. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Yes. DARA is available to private buyers wherever they live. The price is the same everywhere, VAT included.
No. To acquire a DARA Token you confirm your email address; we ask for your name and country for the invoice, and the rest of your address only if you want to give it. We treat all personal information with care; see our privacy policy.
Copyright in the images and the works stays with the artists and OCTARR. With a DARA Token you may view it and its image in your collection and on its Passport, and show that image for personal, non-commercial purposes, crediting DARA and OCTARR. That is all: it gives no other intellectual property rights, and no ownership of the tree or the works.
Each project sets out what you acquire on its page and in its terms. For DARA, you receive a numbered DARA Token with its own OCTARR Passport and an on-chain record on Base, together with OCTARR collector membership.
Your DARA Token can be transferred to another person. Selling it requires a separate arrangement or a marketplace that supports the token. A buyer or resale price is not guaranteed.
If your DARA Token is in your OCTARR collection, you don’t need a wallet: you sign in with your email address. If you have moved it to your own wallet, access depends on that wallet and its recovery details, and OCTARR can’t recover them for you.
OCTARR doesn't operate a marketplace for DARA Tokens, and we don't currently support or recommend a specific external marketplace.
Your DARA Token’s on-chain record exists on Base, a public blockchain. If you hold the token in a wallet you control, access to that wallet does not depend on OCTARR. The OCTARR website, Passport, images and other hosted information may still depend on OCTARR or its service providers.
Yes, when it is on display. We announce exhibitions and viewing arrangements on our Exhibitions and What’s on pages. A DARA Token is a digital token: it doesn’t include event access and isn’t a physical object.
